1.) Season one was better than Season 2. Season 3 surpassed both! Yeah, Dr. Scott got killed. The thing about TLS is that no character is safe. While my favorite character to bite the dust was Tex - season 3 - that doesn't diminish the awesome work done by writers, directors, producers, and actors. The graphics are second to none. Michael Bay's work is awesome. Eric Dane's performance is truly heart wrenching as the Captain who has to make the tough calls - and live with them. I can't imagine anyone else playing that role so perfectly. Adam Baldwin's character is the perfect XO and later Captain of the USS Nathan James (DDG 151). He is definitely a fan favorite. My favorite characters are Danny Green, special ops played by Travis Van Winkle, and Sasha Cooper played by Bridget Regen. Minefield and Don't Look Back were my two favorite episodes; they really showcase Peter Weller's direction and the acting depth of Eric Dane. Can't wait for Season 4 to begin June 2017.

2.) I watched season 3 of The Last Ship live during the summer of 2016. I think it's absolutely incredible in both cast and crew. The writing is dramatic and witty and I sat holding my breath in every episode. Despite the fact that I have all the episodes recorded on my DVR, I'll be buying the DVDs when released to see the behind the scenes footage they already include. Plus, I loan them out to family friends who are now hooked. If your looking for a great present, or just a great new show, I highly recommend The Last Ship :)

3.) I have pre-ordered this. I thought that this was a great season. While others don't like the fact that Dr. Scott was killed off at the end of Season 2, I can't see where her character could have gone in future seasons. This season was action packed and very exciting. Looking forward to Seasons 4 & 5.

GOLDEN AGE OF POP

1.) Description (Editorial Reviews)

As the title suggests, Golden Age is a collection of classics from the Great American Songbook. Drawing from the era between World War I and II, with titles like These Foolish Things, Singin In the Rain, Dream a Little Dream and Cheek to Cheek, Raabe mesmerizes a new generation with timeless tunes by Cole Porter, Noel Coward and others and celebrates an era when Josephine Baker danced dressed only a banana skirt, dance halls were thriving, every restaurant had an orchestra and the Charleston became the sensation.

2.) Special Features

Max Raabe and his fabulous ensemble are transporting. I never tire of listening to this remarkable collection, which at one moment triggers (at least in this listener) exuberant swaying and smiles of delight, and in the next, a plaintive sense of awe at the pure, sweet sound and mood created by this uniquely masterful interpreter of great music from the twenties, thirties and forties. Also included are more recent compositions, performed with Raabe's perfectly sly comedic sense, which always evokes a happy grin as I blissfully drive around town, enjoying the genius of Max Raabe and his marvelous Palace Orchestra.

Customer Review

1.) Aficionados of American popular music of the 1920’s and 30’s will be appreciative of the recent CD of Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester. This is a collection of twenty-one of their refreshingly orchestrated musical pieces, many previously available on DVDs, with 15 vocals by Max Raabe in English. Included are such favorites as “Singing in the Rain,” “Cheek to Cheek,” and “These Foolish Things.” The one page liner notes indicate this presentation are suggestive of what music might have developed in pre-World War II Germany without the Nazi suppression of German culture.
For those unfamiliar with Max Raabe’s style, picture a sparsely art deco appointed stage with two tiers of an evenly divided dozen musicians on the right and left side of the stage. A plain white backdrop amenable to dramatic chromatic effects sets off the players. At stage level, in front of the stage-right players, are the pianist and several guitarists/banjoists. There is an aisle between the tiers to the backdrop, at the entry to which sits a beautifully gowned lone female, a violinist. Mr. Raabe’s microphone is center stage at the proscenium. He spends most of the time when not singing leaning against the baby grand, and comes forth, dressed in tails, singing in an understated and droll fashion at appropriate intervals. Mr. Raabe’s wide-ranging voice is particularly effective because of his straight-forward approach of letting the music tell its story. The musicians, attired in formal evening wear, are each skilled in several instruments. They are totally involved and provide constant playful animation during each presentation. As such, much of the attraction of the Orchester is lost without the visual richness of a live presentation. Those unfamiliar with this “shellac style” will find this collection a rather plain rendition of many popular standards of that time. It would be enjoyably worthwhile to view one or two of this group’s previous DVD’s before purchasing this CD.

2.) Max Raabe and his Palast Orchester are fabulous musicians, who have brought back the best of 1920's/1930's music from the US and Europe. This CD is a great selection of their work. They tour the US annually in the spring, and if they come to a city near you, they are a must-see!

3.) What an amazing artist. If you like or appreciate "The Golden Age",. This
Is one artist you should listen too. Whether he sings in English or German he is top notch!

Customer Review

1.) This show is one of the best, if not the best, production to come out of the former Lostaways from Bad Robot. It takes some deft handiwork to work up a Hitchcockian level of suspense in a prequel that every viewer knows for a fact is going to end badly. Really badly.

Freddie Highmore is perfect as Norman: sweet, polite - a little stiff, and his relationship with Vera Farming's Norma is never less than a revelation. You're constantly being reminded that these are basically good people who love each other a lot and who are making the best choices they can with the baggage they are carrying. The backstory to the backstory adds more heartbreak to the already, for at least one of them, unbearable load. The characters who are not in the movie are equally complex and sympathetic, and as we learn more about them, we fear more for them.

Every season has gotten better. I'm actually not sure I can bear to watch another.

2.) Riveting. Rich character development-- likable folks with complicated lives and a thriller of a story. Not for the faint of heart. Start with Season 1 and enjoy the twisty turns of the ride!

3.)What an amazing artist. If you like or appreciate "The Golden Age",. This
Is one artist you should listen too. Whether he sings in English or German he is top notch!

3.) As you can tell if you've seen my reviews of Seasons 1 and 2, I LOVE this series! lol Retrospectively, I think I said that I thought Season 2 was even better than Season 1. In some ways, that's true, in others not. The one area that I would say Season 1 did better than Season 2 is the drug trade subplot. However, what Season 2 did that was more important is delve deeper into the twisted Bates' extended family relationships, including pushing the envelope on the symbiotic Norma-Norman mother-son bond and diving into the truth about Norma's sexual abuse by her older brother Caleb and how it affects Dylan. SEASON 3 upped the ante! Focusing a lot less on the subplots of Seasons 1 and 2 (drug and sex trade, town politics and shady dealings), Season 3 introduces a subplot, the Arcanium Club, that deftly ties back into the genesis of the Bates' clan arrival in White Pine Bay, Oregon back in Season 1.

Customer Review

1.) This is a a really good show. Heroes totally ripped off this show! Good characters. I had heard a lot about the show, but never watched it. One day I just decided to rent season one from our video store. I was totally hooked. I went back and rented season two and at the time I could not wait for season three to come on tv. This was like right before Battlestar came on - so when the series ended I was comforted by BSG taking over that huge sci-fi gap that was missing since Enterprise ended. If 4400's was renewed for another season, I would totally watch it. I also love the fact that the female detective cop lady was in Romper Stomper [Australian film with Russell Crowe]. It was good to see her make a come back. My favorite female character in the show was Isabella, I wish we could find out what happens with her. I also really liked Tom's son in the show, the one that was in a coma in the begining. It would have been cool to see what they writers would have done with his character too. SPOILER ALERT -- Also what happened to Tom's lady - would he ever see her again. What about the people who took the 4400's in the first place. Also glad to see Robert Picardo on the show [he was in ST-Voyager]. There were so many good characters on the show - those were some of my fav's.

2.) I loved The 4400. I feel it ended much to soon on USA. I feel it had at least another 4 seasons in it but the powers that be felt otherwise. I haven't seen the show since it went off the air. Recently I decided I wanted to see if I could find this show on DVD so I could watch it again! My first place to go looking was Amazon as it has become for most of my shopping for the last several years now. I checked their price and then checked other places as any savy shopper will do. I then ordered this item, several months back and when it arrived, it was damaged. It was from a seller. I only wanted to exchange it for a non damaged box set but could never get them to return my emails. When I contacted Amazon, they promptly refunded me and I sent the damaged item back. This time I ordered it from Amazon directly (and the price was cheaper than the seller was selling it) and the item arrived unscathed and in perfect condition. It arrived much sooner than expected which was perfectly alright. Thank you so much Amazon for continuing to keep me a happy customer!

3.) The 4400 was, in my opinion, one of the best shows ever on television. It had a fantastic cast and wonderful plot lines and plot twists. If you don't know anything about the series, it's basically about 4400 who went missing and returned (all at once) with new and interesting abilities. From there, the story changes SO much. Each season always ends with a huge reveal and a big game changer for the next season and overall scope of the series.

The Tunnel Season 1

1.) Description (Editorial Reviews)

When a dead body is discovered in the English Channel tunnel, exactly midway between England and France, a detective from each country is appointed to work the investigation. The two officers must must work on their own partnership as well as track down the criminal. Stephen Dillane and Clemence Poesy star. It is a fairly faithful re-make of Scandinavian hit The Bridge.

2.) Special Features

Terrific story that kept you guessing "who done it" until the bitter end. Loved the excellent location photography, and even found the occasional subtitles for the French speakers not a bother (at least when they didn't speak so fast!). Would highly recommend this series to anyone who appreciates police procedurals with lots of twists and turns. I found this video thoroughly enjoyable!

Customer Review

1.) I cannot exactly put my finger on it, but British (and in this case UK/French) detective series are different from U.S. generated series. They are quieter and develop slowly with intriguing characters and complex plots. They assume an audience that is smart and does not need to be told everything. AND they develop a deep sense of place with amazing photography of land- and cityscapes where the story takes place. This series does not disappoint in these elements. It is dark... very dark. On the darkness meter, I think of a couple of BBC productions -- The Wallander series with Kenneth Branagh produced by the BBC and based on the Swedish novels of Henning Mankell and the series Luther. On our side of the pond, I am reminded of Dexter. BUT, if you are OK with the darker side, it is intriguing and absolutely absorbing. My only critique would be that, on the DVD I have, the sound goes very low whenever there is dialogue, which is sometimes difficult with the range of English accents. What saves me is that some of the scenes in France have subtitles! But, as with many well-written and directed TV dramas (or Shakespeare, for that matter) you do your best to understand and then go with the flow (or watch it a second time.

2.) Outstanding entertainment with superb performances especially that of Clemence Poesy. It is gripping with lots of plot twists and turns you don't see coming. Well worth your time. Definitely on the dark side, but done with taste and sophistication. I look forward to purchasing season 2 when it becomes available for sale.

3.) One of the best TV series of the season. Stephan Dillane is, as always, brilliant. Highly recommend.A movie with a fascinating plot. Hope there is a Season 2.Watched it on PBS and had to have my own copy! It is awesome
