Customer Review

1.) THE BOOK OF LIFE is produced by Guillermo del Toro, directed by Jorge Gutierrez, and features an outstanding voice cast to tell its story of true love (along with a generous helping of Mexican culture). The basic plot is about two boys, Joaquin (Diego Luna) and Manolo (Channing Tatum), who vie for the affections of a girl, Maria (Zoe Saldana). As people they're fairly opposite, with Manolo being a musician at heart (his family's profession is bullfighter) and Joaquin being a soldier who does great deeds of derring-do. Unbeknownst to them, however, Lady Muerte and Xibalba (Ron Perlman) have entered into a wager about which of them can win the heart of Maria and it sets Manolo on a journey that will take him to both realms of the dead. First, I should say that the character design, animation and overall look of the film was extremely creative and visually unique, befitting a Guillermo del Toro production. The colors popped and everything in the world of the film was brought to vibrant life. The voice cast was equally impressive, although there were a couple of people who took me out of it for a little bit before getting sucked back into the story. The biggest offender was probably Ice Cube, who voices the Candlemaker, although they did stick in a couple of good jokes and references for him. I also got taken a little bit out of the story by realizing that Danny Trejo and Cheech Marin also voiced characters in the film, but again, they still did great work here. Another high point was the music. The score was pretty good, but what really stood out was the use of modern pop songs in what is (mostly) a period piece set at an indeterminate time in the past. Of course, I didn't mind that one bit at all. I also thought that the first half to two-thirds of the story were excellent. It succeeded telling an emotionally moving story with plenty of interesting characters, but at a certain point it resorted to the standard climax and resolution that wrapped up everything with a nice little bow. And despite.

2.) This is a great movie for so many reasons. First of all, it’s visually stunning in a way that most animated movies rarely attempt. Secondly, it’s just wacky and twisted enough to rise above the typical animated movie, something Pixar knows well, but in this case, the audience is decidedly older (hence the PG rating and the descriptive warning within the rating). Yes, there are adult themes of death, albeit in the fanciful sugar-skull-centric fashion of the glorious holiday Día de los Muertos. Nonetheless, this is not a movie for very young children but, I do think that tweens and up will find it captivating, and it’s good to see that the people who put this surreal dream together were up for making an animated movie that wasn’t so predictable and hackneyed. Lastly, it walks a delicate line between reverence and satire, dark comedy and enchanting romance, Guillermo de Toro and Walt Disney. Not bad for a “cartoon.”

Part Rango, part Ren and Stimpy, and part folklore, The Book of Life is a sly, eye-popping, tongue-in-cheek, whimsical tale of love, friendship, and tradition that is a treat for the mind, the heart, and the imagination. While I’d like to see some improvements made in tightening things up, a more involved storyline, and a better sense of music, The Book of Life is still a gorgeous movie that joyfully shatters the Disney/Pixar bubble.

This is a movie I can watch (and have watched) again and again, looking for subtleties in story line, background actions, and dialog each time - and every time it just gets better and better (sort of like the 1939 version of "The Wizard of Oz", my all-time favorite film.

1.) I have a son who can't talk, but communicates well. He bought a toy dog Max before the movie came out. Now he's not a huge movie watcher, but if it has a fish or a dog in it he'll watch it. I took him to the theater, and he saw the picture of Max the dog. He pointed at it and I told him that's the movie we're going to see. He smiled big. My six year old boy along with every other kid in the theater laughed so hard throughout the whole movie. My son rarely laughs at funny parts of movies, bc he doesn't understand it, but this movie he understood and laughed, and he made me laugh. He was hugging me throughout the whole movie that was his was of saying thank you mommy, I love this movie. His favorite scene that he laughed the hardest at was when Max and the other dog find a sausage factory and are in sausage heaven. Every kid loved that scene. After the movie we had to go to Walmart and he found a talking Max plush toy. He's been carrying him around all over. I took my son to see Zootopia, and half way through he got bored, but my teenage daughters loved it, why? The plot was geared towards grown kids and adults, however Secret life of pets the plot is so simple that kids absolutely love it, and for that I loved it! My kid sat through the whole movie and the credits he didn't want to leave. By the way my teen daughters loved that movie, too. Remember, it's suppose to be a kids movie, not an adult movie, and this one is the kids kid movie! Love it!

2.) The story, characters, action and dialogue are drop-dead HILARIOUS! For those of us who have dog fur babies, so much of the plot and animal behavior rings true. I found myself constantly belly-laughing at the antics of every character. Another win from the studio that gave us the Minions

3.) Doesn't matter the age, this was a cute guilty pleasure movie. There were times were I doubted whether the writers/animators were not on "performance-enhancing" products. I generally don't care too much for Louis C.K.'s style, but I thought he delivered for this one compared to say Parks and Rec. Weenies were a great laugh. I still giggle like an idiot watching that particular part and mini-movie.

Trolls(2016) Editorial Reviews

After the Bergens invade Troll Village, Poppy (Anna Kendrick), the happiest Troll ever born, and the overly-cautious, curmudgeonly Branch (Justin Timberlake) set off on a journey to rescue her friends. Their mission is full of adventure and mishaps, as this mismatched duo try to tolerate each other long enough to get the job done.

This is a fantastic family movies. The songs are catchy and fun and the message is wonderful. My girls watch it over and over again arena love.to dance and sing to the music. I highly recommend!

This holiday season, enter a colorful, wondrous world populated by hilariously unforgettable characters and discover the story of the overly optimistic Trolls, with a constant song on their lips, and the comedicly pessimistic Bergens, who are only happy when they have trolls in their stomach.

Rated PG for some mild rude humor.

Released by Fox.

Description

Who loves Trolls more? Me or my kids?? I think it's pretty even because we all love it so much!! Okay, I know it's forbidden to say anything negative about Disney movies, but we all know that there comes a point during a Disney Pixar where it gets boring, and the kids become restless. Yeah.. that does not happen with this movie. Both my kids (boy + girl) were intrigued from the beginning to the end. We, as adults, are engaged because the music is relatable; we know all the words to most of the songs already. Justin Timberlake is such a timestamp of the millennial generation, so if you are a parent, you are going to love Trolls. We also loved the underlining message throughout the movie. This movie was *special*, and we are looking forward to Trolls 2. They have to make this happen asap!!!

If you haven't watch Trolls do yourself a favor and watch it. I am a 64 year old man and only watched it because my granddaughter wanted to watch it at the theater. That was her 3rd time watching it. She loved and I loved it. The story is great and the music is fantastic. When it came out on Blu-ray I didn't hesitate to buy it. I actually bought a copy for her and myself.

Tremendous movie for young children and adults. I have two grandsons, 2 and 4. Hard to believe, but both have very discerning tastes in movies, particularly when they are full length. This work is filled with colorful images, great animation, a good story-line and a positive message. Yes, there is a message about happiness and it is very basic. However, it is a message that children will understand. I am absolutely blown away by the music. All the music was produced by Justin Timberlake and he made very wise choices. Timberlake worked with songs that adults will (or should) immediately recognize such as: "The Sound of Silence," "I'm Coming Out," "September," and "True Colors." In my opinion, this is a brilliant stroke by Timberlake who clearly demonstrates that he is a professional. Also, the performers/singers are excellent. Vocals by Timberlake, Anna Kendrick, Gwen Stefani and Zooey Deschanel are outstanding. My favorite, by far, is "September." I bought the Original Soundtrack based upon the film.

Customer Review

1.)

To say I am a fan of Charles Schulz's Peanuts is a complete understatement. I'll always fondly remember Charlie Brown continuously getting a rock for Halloween, and Linus's blanket, but I love all the Peanuts characters quite honestly. So seeing this movie was an absolute necessity for myself.

And though I was admittedly skeptical, I left the theater with a smile. Seeing Charlie, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, Franklin, and the rest of the gang adapted on-screen was a real treat for a fan like myself. The plot involves all your favorite characters and revolves primarily around Charlie having a crush on the sweet Little Red-Haired girl.

When I watch an animated movie, I expect two things 1. For it to retain the innocent childlike qualities on which it sets out to achieve 2. be entertaining for both kids and adults. Number 2 is important because as adorable as little children are, they can't pay the price of admission!

The Peanuts movie has that childhood adventure and quality that will bring out the kid in everyone who watches the film. While watching The Peanuts movie, there were numerous times I was reminded of why these characters are so special and why even today they hold such an impact.

And the animation (for today's generation) is done exceptionally well in The Peanuts Movie. Pig-Pen is still as dirty as ever, and Snoopy still looks as recognizable as ever.

More importantly, I love how The Peanuts Movie has a lesson for both kids (and as a guy who is currently crushing on a girl right now and is still admittedly a bit shy) and adults to take to heart. It never fails to stay true to Charle Schulz's stories, nor does it cease to entertain. I'd gladly see The Peanuts Movie again and again, and it is one of my favorite animated movies released this year.

2.) THANK YOU FOR NOT RUINING MY CHILDHOOD!!! I was so scared I'd find Snoopy licking himself, at least one doggy neutering joke, a romantic triangle with Charlie, Linus and the little red-haired girl... What a relief! The same good ol' Charlie Brown! No pre-teen drama, just normal kids, normal challenges, MORALS (am I dreaming)? There was no modernization of the strip... no texting, cell phones or video games, no whip and nae nae junk at the school dance. I can sleep soundly, knowing this movie is out in the world teaching our little red-haired girls to choose their pen pals by the quality of their character NOT by how cool his hair is (see what I did there).
